Training

Before any training can be completed, lab safety training through EH&S at UC Merced needs to be up to date including Radiation Safety for users of radiation producing machines (ME-EHS-UCLOL0020-ECO). Courses can be access through UC Learing Center.

 

How to get Training on the IMF Instruments

SEM Training

Anyone who wishes to operate the SEM must first be properly trained. This is a three-step process; the first is to fill out a Recharge Authorization form. Once this form is handed in a manual will be emailed and a series of questions answered. When the questions are handed in, the the third step can begin, which is hands-on training. These one-on-one sessions are scheduled with the lab manager.

TEM Training

Anyone who wishes to operate the TEM must first be properly trained. This is a three-step process; the first is to fill out a Recharge Authorization form. Once this form is handed in the student will read a manual and attend several classes with a final exam at the end. When the exam is passed, the third step, hands-on-training, can begin. These hands-on sessions are scheduled with the lab manager.

XRD Training

Anyone who wishes to operate the SEM must first be properly trained. This is a three-step process; the first is to fill out a Recharge Authorization form at the back of the welcome file. Once this form is handed in,  please read x-ray_powder_diffraction, and  read and fill out form and answer the questions xrd_radiation_safety_ucm.pdf  When the forms and questions are handed in, the hands-on training can begin. These one-on-one sessions are scheduled with the lab manager.

Support Equipment

Anyone who wishes to use the sample preparation equipment needs to schedule time with the lab manager. The cost is based on the lab manager's time plus the time on the instrument. Budget $100 per instrument.
